This can be such a cliche statement. We never give it much thought. I never really did. I always made surface statements like, “My heart is with my family, my God, my job….” I always offered up basic answers because that is what I believed people wanted to hear. The time has come to truly take a deep look at where our heart is.
Scripture says,
Matthew 6:21
21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

So, what do you treasure? Is it your car? Your house? money? Food? These things aren’t bad in and of themselves. They are a part of everyday life.
Do you treasure your body? I know I didn’t for 42 years. I treated my body like it was invincible. I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Gaining weight was of no concern. I had heard 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.(NLT)“ So, now that we know this, is it acceptable to overeat, be a glutton, and abuse our bodies in negative ways? Certainly not!
As I pondered this in the early part of 2017, I came to a realization that I needed to take this passage seriously if I ever wanted to see real freedom from being morbidly obese. If you’ve read my bio, you know that when I started my weight loss journey I was at 354lbs! I am happy to report that I have mad it down to 295lbs as of this writing. I know it seems like an impossible task, but you can do it – one day at a time.
If I may, I would like to offer up this prayer for you:
Father, God. We know how easy it is to give in to our temptations. The temptation of eating things that put our bodies at risk of missing Your mark. Give us the knowledge and wisdom necessary to achieve total health restoration according to Your plan. Crush and destroy the plans of the enemy to keep us in bondage to unhealthy eating. Shatter the strongholds in our mind that the enemy uses to convince us we can never make it. Let Your glory ring through as we fight the good fight, taking every thought captive and developing the discipline to endure.
In Jesus sweet and precious name we pray, amen.
